Rockets Look Impressive in First Game, Win 105-96

The Beardsanity era started off with a bang. After only one game, it looks like James Harden of the Rockets could be worth every penny of the 5 year/ $80 million contract he signed just hours before he put up 37 points on 14/25 shooting, as well as 12 assists and 6 rebounds. Jeremy Lin also played well with 12 points, 8 assists, and 4 steals, but his time on the bench spoke volumes about his importance to the Rockets. The Rockets were on a 10-0 run in the 2nd half to take the lead at 65-58. The Pistons responded with a 13-0 run of their own to take the lead back to 71-65. Jeremy Lin was in foul trouble during this 13-0 run and the offense couldn't get going without him. Trailing 81-72 to start the 4th quarter, the Rockets went on a tear during Lin's return with clutch 3-pointers from Carlos Delfino and James Harden, as well as a couple of crucial dunks from Greg Smith. Carlos Delfino finished with 4 3-pointers and 15 points.

Houston Rockets: Preview

After a lot of roster turnover in the offseason, the Rockets are finally ready to take the court as they head to Detroit to challenge the Pistons. The Rockets rank last in the NBA in returning players' minutes played with only 13%. Most of that total consists of Chandler Parsons and Patrick Patterson. Coach Kevin McHale has been working hard to build some team chemistry in practice amid all the changes, but it is always difficult getting players to mesh when you only return two players with significant minutes Things weren't looking good for the Rockets earlier this summer. They unloaded all of their veterans from last year, trying to compile a plethora of draft picks and young players to entice Rob Hennigan in trading Dwight Howard to Houston. Howard ended up in Los Angeles, but Rockets GM Daryl Morey did his best in free agency picking up PG Jeremy Lin and C Omer Asik. The biggest move by far though, is the acquisition of James Harden from OKC.

The Rockets had to give up Kevin Martin, Jeremy Lamb, 2 1st Round Picks, and a 2nd Rounder. This was an easy trade for a Rockets team that has been desperate for a star player ever since Yao Ming and T-Mac's careers disintegrated due to injuries. This leaves Houston with a young but talented starting 5 that should consist of Jeremy Lin at the point, Harden at SG, Chandler Parsons at the 3, Patrick Patterson at PF, and Asik playing center.
The Rockets should also have a young but deep bench. Rookies Donatas Motiejunas and Terrence Jones have both played well in preseason and summer league games and should challenge Patterson for some of his minutes. Add in veteran Carlos Delfino and wild-card swingman Royce White, and this Rockets team could be very fun to watch. Young fresh legs will help the Rockets keep an uptempo pace with a lot of fast breaks. Tim Legler of ESPN has the Rockets as the lottery team most likely to make the playoffs. Amid all the uncertainty this offseason, the Rockets will be more than ready to prove they're no slouch at 6:30 tonight

NBA 2012: New Beginnings

There are a lot of new faces in new places this NBA season and this is only the beginning to one of the most exciting seasons in NBA history and they haven't even played a game yet. There are so many different story lines to headline this season, such as the "Dwight Howard Saga" "The MVP Race" "Will Lebron Maximize His Talents", "Who Will Be The next star" and many others. The Miami Heat will be defending their championship in a newly stacked Eastern Confrence that contains a revamped Knicks and Nets team who will be formidable contenders for the top East teams. Also the Boston Celtics and Indiana Pacers will be gunning for that top spot with their tough defense, but then you have to wonder what will become of the Andrew Bynum Project. Will he lead the team or need the team in crunch time. This one player determines the standing of the Eastern Conference playoffs.
The Lakers have yet again picked the best "Big Man" in the game, it started with Mikan then Wilt, Kareem, Shaq, and now Howard. Howard has the potential to be one of the greatest and he is looking like he is ready to dominate this upcoming season, but will he dominate enough to bring another championship to LA? There are several of teams that are gonna make sure that does not happen...like their stadium buddies for instance. The LA Clippers are looking better than they have in two decades. They have two MVB Candidates, Chris Paul and Blake Griffith, with a great supporting cast which embodies Grant Hill, Caron Butler, and "Big Shot" Chauncey Billups. In addition to the Clippers you have the Thunder and the Spurs who are in the Western Conference Finals, both teams looking to reach that level and much more.

The Eastern Conference seems to be a two team race between the NBA Champion Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics headlining the rivalry is the departure of Celtic shartshooter Ray Allen, who is now the sixth man for the Miami Heat. Both teams have many key additions such as Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis to the Heat and Boston adds former Sixthman Jason Terry and Courtney Lee. The Celtics also have Chris Wilcox and Jeff Green returning as well whom were injured last season. The Eastearn Conference has several major contending teams such as the Knicks, Pacers, and Nets. The East is stacked from top to bottom with alot of young talent and this is the perfect mixture of players in the NBA...young, prime, and veteran players. Then NBA has not been this competetive since the "Jordan Era". There are so many questions, lets name a few "can Carmelo get the Knicks out the first round?" , "will the Brooklyn Nets win the Playoffs?", "will Andrew Bynum be an Allstar center?", and these are just a few of the many unanswered questions for this season and the best part is that we still have 82 games left to let it all unfold!

Texans Drinking Game: EXPERIENCED DRINKERS ONLY

My roommates and I came up with a nice drinking game for the hometown Houston Texans. I must warn you that you will be drinking a lot so no noobs or under 21's mmmkay? It is a simple game where certain plays require you to drink an assigned number of seconds or sips of beer. You can play at whatever pace you want. New rule suggestions are always welcome!

Basic Rules:

1) 1st Down = 1 sec / sip
2) If Announcer draws on the screen = 2 sec
3) If a hot girl is shown on the screen = 2 sec
4) If your watching a game on FOX and the dancing robot comes on = 2 sec
5) Sack = 2 sec
6) Turnover = 3 sec
7) Personal Foul = 2 sec
8) 70 yard gain = 3 sec
9) 70 yard gain WITH a Touchdown = Finish your beer
10) Touchdown = 4 sec
11) Field Goal = 3 sec
12)Blocked Punt or Kick = 5 sec
13) Streaker runs on the field = Finish your beer 14) Butterfingers or Dropped Pass = 3 sec

Waterfall Songs

If you here any of these songs play at the stadium or on TV, you and your friends have to do a waterfall. A waterfall is when one person starts to drink and then everyone drinks in a circle. Once the person who first started drinking puts down their beer, only then can you put down yours.
1)Party Rock
2) Anything by Pitbull
3) Dynamite
4) Firework
5) Call Me Maybe

Additional Texans Rules:

1) Gary Kubiak loses a challenge = 5 sec
2) Arian Foster "Namaste" Bow = 4 seconds for TD plus 2 seconds for "Namaste"
3) Antonio Smith pulls out his ninja sword = 3 sec
4) JJ Watt Salute = 2 sec
5) TV shows Cushing on the sideline = 2 sec
6) Owen Daniels "turns it up" = 2 sec

Leave us comments on what new rules we should add for the Texans or for other teams!

Forbes Names Rossi Highest Paid Racer

Forbes Names Rossi Highest Paid Racer

Valentino Rossi has once again been named the highest-compensated motorcycle racer, according to a newly released list by Forbes. Rossi, 33, took in an estimated $30 million between June 2011 and June 2012. Rossi’s earnings consist of $17 million in salary from Ducati and $13 million in endorsements.
Highest Paid Motorcycle Rider
The Italian motorcyclist ranked 20th overall on Forbes’ list, but greatly out earned all other riders. Rossi’s next closest competitor was Australian motorcycle racer Casey Stoner, who earned about one-third of Rossi’s income.
Despite Rossi’s impressive earnings, he was not the highest-paid motorsport athlete overall. That title went to Ferrari F1 star Fernando Alonso, who earned approximately $32 million. This was the second year in a row that Alonso finished first amongst all motorsport athletes.
Alonso’s fellow F1 racer Michael Schumacher, earned roughly $30 million, thus sharing the 20th spot with Rossi. The only other motorsport stars to make the list were NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. and F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, who ranked 23rd and 24th respectively.
Rossi's Career
Since turning professional in 1996, Rossi has been one of the most successful motorcycle racers of all time. Rossi won his first World Championship in the 125cc 1997, one year after joining the Grand Prix with Aprilla. Just two years later, Rossi moved up to the 250cc category and won another World Championship. Rossi’s dominance continued, winning World Championships each year from 2001 to 2005 with Honda, in various categories.
Rossi’s streak ended in 2006 when he left Honda to join the Yamaha team. It would be another two years until Rossi regained the world title. Despite winning back-to-back titles with Yamaha in 2008 and 2009, Rossi has not won a World Championship since.
Switch To Ducati
In 2011, Rossi left Yamaha to join Ducati. Rossi’s tenure with Ducati has been disappointing to say the least. In fact, Rossi suffered his first-ever winless season in his debut year with Ducati in 2011. In spite of Rossi’s less than stellar 2011, the seven-time MotoGP champion was able to end his winless streak in January of 2012. Rossi currently ranks 6th in the MotoGP World Championship with 58 points in six starts.
Racing aside, Rossi currently has endorsement deals with Monster Energy, Hennessy, Nike and Hewlett-Packard. Rossi’s deal with HP even resulted in a series of limited edition laptop computers inspired by the athlete.
Forbes Highest Paid Athletes
As for the overall top-earner, that title went to boxer Floyd Mayweather. Aptly nicknamed “Money,” Mayweather has earned roughly $85 million since June 2011. Mayweather, who is currently the WBC Welterweight Champion and WBA (Super) Light Middleweight Champion, accrued the $85 million in just two fights. Mayweather managed to bump golfer Tiger Woods from the top spot, marking the first time Woods has not led Forbes’ list since 2001. Woods earned an estimated $59.4 million, putting him third behind Manny Pacquiao.

Forbes Top 10 Highest Paid Athletes

  1. Floyd Mayweather (Boxing) $85m
  2. Manny Pacquiao (Boxing) $62m
  3. Tiger Woods (Golf) $59.4m
  4. LeBron James (NBA) $53m
  5. Roger Federer (Tennis) $52.7m
  6. Kobe Bryant (NBA) $52.3m
  7. Phil Mickelson (Golf) $47.8m
  8. David Beckham (Football) $46m
  9. Cristiano Ronaldo (Football) $42.5m
  10. Peyton Manning (NFL) $42.4m
